nicolas hubert external refrigerator 2

One of the major challenges of this year’s Electrolux Design Lab was to find efficient ways of maximizing space at home, and Nicolas Hubert’s External Refrigerator is one neat solution. The External Refrigerator can be hung directly on the outside wall of residential buildings, thereby saving a lot of space. The low external temperatures provide the right climate for items in the fridge during the winters and at night. In case of summers and the sunny days, the solar panels transform light into energy. The process helps homeowners save both energy and money.

John-Lennon's-toilet-1.jpg
Toilet humor is something that guarantees a few laughs even if you find it lewd or gross. But if a toilet, up for auction demands for a stunningly ridiculous amount, then it certainly not funny. But this is no public toilet, it belongs one of the most popular musicians John “Beatles” Lennon. Apparently, he gave away the porcelain lavatory to his builder John Hancock to be used as a plant pot instead when he replaced it at his home. The pot estimated between $1,160 and $1,544 held plants at Mr. Hancock’s home for 40 years before he passed away.
The other items to go under the hammer include a rare mono-sound copy of the Two Virgins duet with Yoko Ono (estimated at $3,860), Lennon’s son Julian’s harmonica (estimated between $1,160 and $1,544) and a black and white autographed picture of a 21 year old Sir Paul McCartney outside his family hone in Liverpool (estimated between $580 and $620)

J-D-Salinger-toilet.jpg
Like many yesteryear stars, authors of the bygone era too have an enormous fan following. Take for instance the late J.D Salinger whose book, the Catcher in the Rye is still a bestseller. Hoping to cash in on literary name and fame is the new owner of the author’s compound in Cornish, New Hampshire. The new owner was probably inspired by the amount that some of the belongings of authors fetch at various auctions. So now, hoping to make his own profit, the new owner is selling various fixtures of Salinger’s home including his toilet! Yes, The Vault of Forsythe, Inc. a collectibles dealer who is auctioning the items for the new owner, has listed Salinger’s toilet on eBay! The toilet has been listed for a “buy it now” price of $1million. Reportedly five offers have already been made for this toilet already and they are still open to various other offers.
According to the details provided, the toilet was reportedly installed in the new wing of Salinger’s home. It was in fact personally used by the author himself. The vintage toilet is from 1962 and is dated under the lid. What is more, the toilet will be sent to the buyer in its original condition when it was removed from Salinger’s old home by the new owners. The toilet will come accompanied by a letter from the home’s new owner, Joan Littlefield who has purchased the house with her husband.

The author who was a known recluse must already be turning and shifting in his grave on hearing of this latest auction.

JBL_Synthesis.jpg
Although you might consider overlooking most HTiB systems, but the latest one from JBL Synthesis and Mark Levinson definitely needs to be given more than just a glance. With an asking price of $88,100, the Synthesis One Array ML Premier is one mean piece of home audio equipment. Comprising of a combination of the best of Harman Audio’s brands together in one system, the Synthesis One Array ML Premier is truly a class apart. The system provides all the speakers, interconnects them along with the digital equalizer and THX Sound Processor, while the four Mark Levinson 500H Series Amps power everything. However, the price tag does not include installation and calibration charges. If those are included, the price of this HTiB can reach up to a cool $100,000.
Don’t forget once you buy an HTiB you need to invest in a display/projector, a remote control and all such things that ensure a great home theater viewing experience.

So if all these costs don’t manage to break a sweat on your brow, then you must definitely go ahead and splurge on this home audio equipment.

Katie Price AKA Jordan, the British glamor model, bought a country home in West Sussex worth a whopping £2 million which was used for her wedding to Alex Reid.

The home has six bedrooms and sits on an expansive 53 acres of land. At least that’s £2 million spent on something that they can actually use afterwards.

The couple already married in Vegas but decided to hold another ceremony to involve family and friends.

Too bad the police were called as a brawl erupted on their supposed special day when security personnel got tangled up with the paparazzi who were trying to snap some pictures of the couple.

Beetle-House-&-Restaurant1.jpg
Most of us would flaunt our love for our favorite car by cruising in the car everywhere and buying various accessories related to the car, or by building a fancy garage to display it or even buy a miniature model to adorn the mantelpiece. But not builder Markus Voglreiter. The man who is in love with the VW Beetle has built not just a home but also a restaurant in the shape of this famed car. In 2003 he shelled out £750,000 ($1,140,084) to create the 3 storey home which is based on the original Beetle produced by Porsche in 1935. And in 2007 he and his team were able to open to public the first of its kind Beetle shaped restaurant.
The Car Home is built on the border of a nature preserve in Gnigl near Salzburg, Austria and is constructed from pine wood and has a sturdy cement foundation. At night, when the lights of the two second storey bedrooms are switched on they appear as the headlights of the car. The bathroom window appears as the fuel cap from outside. Besides giving the home a unique uplift, the builder has even made the home energy efficient by instituting “3 liter” energy efficient heating and insulation techniques.

The restaurant christened, THE CAR, DAS AUTO cost 1.6 million Euros ($2 million) and was co-financed by Daniell Porsche. Located in north of Salzberg, Austria, this restaurant and bar seats 300 and has room for 350 on the outside terraces. A must unusual place to dine, this restaurant is sure to become a landmark.

Both unique structures, they are sure to attract Beetle lovers.

World's Most Expensive Towels

In the 1920s, white linen sheets were de rigueur. That all changed when Madeleine Porthault convinced her husband, Daniel, to offer a home couture collection through his small Parisian lingerie boutique. Their business thrived and many others followed suit, but the D. Porthault name still carries weight among the wealthy and their bath towels are the most expensive towels in the world.

The practice that sets D. Porthault apart from their competitors is that they still silk-screen their prints by hand. This process allows their hand-mixed paints to set deep within the fabric, making their towels and other home coordinates vibrant for a lifetime.

D. Porthault’s most expensive towels are made with 65-gram Egyptian cotton with double-rolled, hand-sewn scalloped edges. These luxury towels are priced over $400 and may be purchased in the US at their New York boutique at 470 Park Ave.
