Larry-Ellison's-McLaren-F1-1.jpg
Gooding & Company’s auction during Pebble Beach weekend was a success with many cars fetching way over their estimated amounts. The highlight of this auction was Larry Ellison’s 1995 McLaren F1. The McLaren lived up to its pre sale estimate and fetched a cool $3,575,000, putting it at #5 on Gooding’s top ten money earners that weekend. The car is only 15 years old and only cost $970,000 when it was purchased. The McLaren is probably the only production car out there in the last 30 years, and certainly the only nineties car, and hence it was a given that this car would generate the most interest among car enthusiasts.
The top grosser at this sale was a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione that fetched $7,260,000! However, it was the Oracle founder’s car that managed to be a showstopper.

Lock-of-Napoleon-Bonaparte-hair.jpg
Napoleon Bonaparte will forever be remembered as one of the most influential leaders/emperor’s of France. His actions were responsible for shaping the politics of Europe in the early 19th century. Nearly two hundred years after his death, he still manages to soar high in popularity rankings. This was evident at a recent auction held by Art+Object Auction House in New Zealand where a lock of hair cut from Napoleon Bonaparte’s head after he died fetched $13,000. The lock of hair was cut by Denzil Ibbeston, a British commissary officer and artist, a day after Napoleon’s death in 1821 on the island of St. Helena.
The circle of hair was part of a collection brought to New Zealand in 1864 by Ibbeston who served on St. Helena during the six years that Napoleon was held on the island after being defeated at the Battle of Waterloo. The collection of 40 items was auctioned by the descendants of Ibbeston. The collection included sketches of Napoleon on his death bed by Ibbeston.

The auction of Napoleon memorabilia attracted bidders from across the globe. The lock of hair was brought by an unnamed collector from London.
