Perfume and Film Noir
It’s been hot here. It’s pushing 100 degrees, and like most people in my neighborhood I don’t have an air conditioner. When night comes, neighbors sit in boxer shorts under their porch lights drinking cold, cheap beer and swatting mosquitoes. Even feral cats move slowly. What’s a girl to do? Descend to the basement with a martini and a stack of film noir DVDs, that’s what. Here in the light of an old swag lamp with the chest freezer kicking in now and then I immerse myself in the black and white world of femme fatales, private eyes, and gangsters. And of course I think, what perfume would they wear?
Let’s start with something easy: the femme fatale. Think of Ava Gardner as Kitty Collins in The Killers. She’s beautiful, unattainable, and just when you think she’s yours she double crosses you. Frédéric Malle Carnal Flower and Robert Piguet Fracas come to mind right away. Lanvin My Sin or Caron Narcisse Noir might be good choices, too. The “corrupt flower” of Penhaligon’s Amaranthine would be a good bet when the femme fatale is settled in a humid, exotic location like Jane Russell in Macao or Bette Davis in The Letter. Disney World To Build Luxury Homes
The question you have to ask yourself is how much do you REALLY love Disney. Enough to pay luxury costs for an estate on the amusement park’s property? Well then, wish granted!
Apparently Disney World is allocating some of their property for new luxury home construction. According to recent reports out of Florida, Disney is planning on building a gated community called Golden Oaks which will eventually see up to 400 new luxury homes.
Prices for the estates will start at $1.5 million and go up from there to at least $8 million. We’re sorta of unclear on where these homes would be located, given the small amount of space left inside the park itself for such extravagance.

Well Angelina Jolie knows how to gift unexpected things to her loved ones. This time around she showed off the daredevil side as she took her daughter Shiloh along on a private jet during a flight lesson. While Jolie sat buckled in the pilot’s seat with an instructor by her side, her four-year-old daughter was tucked in safely on a safety seat at the back. Well mommy dearest got herself a pilot’s license in 2005 and has promised her daughter that she will get lessons too when she’s of the right age.
